DRESS UP YOUR COUCH (2) :THROW BLANKETS

In my last post here,we agreed we cannot all afford to purchase a new couch every time we are bored with the current one,so we are putting some effort into reclaiming its lost glory.

Throw blankets are decorative blankets thrown over a seat.They are a stylish way to  hide the stains and worn outlook of the sofa.The blankets also inject color and pattern into an otherwise boring room.Its functions go beyond decorative,they also keep you comfortable and warm on those cold days or nights as you snuggle on that couch.

Depending on where you purchase your throw blanket,the price range can vary from as low as Ksh 200 to  as high as Ksh 3000.

Ladies who own those wide scarves,you can improvise with that,serves the same purpose at a cheaper price.

The throw blanket can be placed in several ways on your seats for maximum effect,depending on your personality and your decorating style:

• spread out to cover the bottom part of the couch.This is a great way to protect your couch from dirt and damage by kids or pets and at the same time refresh the couch.

    

• spread out to cover the middle 2/3 of  the couch.The contrast between the throw and the sofa colors creates interest.

• Cover the whole length of the couch. Fur throw blankets are best for this,the couch looks so cozy and welcoming.

• Fold the throw length wise,then into half then place it on the upper edge of the sofa.A neat,inviting look.

• Draped at the corner of the couch.It can be folded  or just placed  in a messy heap.

  

• For a sophisticated look,the throw is folded neatly and placed on the arm of the couch.

• For the casual,outgoing guys,this look is for you because you do not have to fuss with the throw,just place it in a messy heap partially on the couch flowing to the floor.

• On the chaise lounge ,fold the throw lengthwise,then in half and angle it at the  outer corner.

• The L- Shaped sofa;

Throw blankets are not limited couches,the one-seater seats in your house could also do with  a little color!

• The throw is folded length wise,and placed running down the seat from top to bottom.Ensure that the throw does not cover the whole width of the seat.Place your throw pillows at the corner of the seat to  hide the crease of the blanket,this creates a finished look and adds contrast.

• For a dramatic look,use more than one throw blanket on the same seat.

The two  throws make a visual statement  with their contrasting colors.Add the throw pillow and it becomes apiece of art.The blankets have been placed under the seat cushion to keep them in place .

TIPS

1. Go for throw blankets with texture;cashmere,fringes,fur embroidery patterns..
2. Solid colored throws are best if you have patterned throw pillows.The two will not compete for attention.
3. Stick to your color scheme.
4. Throw blankets  should not be of the same exact color as  the seat they are on.
5. You can have several throws in one room or even on the same seat,as long as they color coordinate.
